If your son lives within the boundaries of the Sun Prairie Little League and he
meets the age requirements, he can only play Little League baseball in Sun Prairie.
First of all the tryouts really aren’t "tryouts", because every kid who registers
with SPLL will be assigned to a team by the end of the day. The "tryouts" are really
more like a demonstration of a child’s baseball skills as part of a process to evenly
distribute those abilities throughout the League.
The players will be given a number to stick on their shirts when they arrive for
the tryouts. That number will correspond to the number coaches have on their rating
sheets. Groups of 10 players will show the coaches how they can hit and field: first
they will demonstrate their hitting in a batting cage with a pitching machine; then
the group will move to the other side of the soccer field where they will take 3
pop flies and 3 grounders. Then the next group of 10 will do the same, and so on,
and so on... When the player is done with tryout he/she can leave the building.
The coaches will call each player the next day to inform them for which team they
were chosen.
*** NO DOGS ALLOWED AT THE SPLL DIAMONDS ***
Small children, sudden movements, and dogs don't mix. No matter how well-trained,
dogs can be unpredictable. For the safety of our players, families, baseball fans,
and the safety of your dog, please keep your dog at home. That applies to little
dogs, medium dogs, and big dogs.
The Sun Prairie Little League has a cooperative agreement with the City of Sun Prairie
for the diamonds we use at the Youth Baseball Complex. Keep in mind this is a city
park and we have to follow city ordinances about dogs.
Sun Prairie City Ordinance 12.44.010 B3. Pets. No person shall permit any
dog, cat, horse or other pet owned by him or her to be in any park.
The Little League is organized in this manner:
- The First Level: The Local Little League - The
Sun Prairie Little Boundaries follow the Sun Prairie Area School District (SPASD)
borders. If you live within the SPASD boundaries and your child meets the age requirements
he or she can play in the Sun Prairie Little League.
- The Second Level: The District - For administrative
and tournament purposes, roughly 10 to 20 leagues in a given area usually comprise
a district. Sun Prairie Little League belongs to Wisconsin District 4 Little League.
- The Third Level: The Region - There are five Little
League Regions in the United States. SPLL and all of other leagues in Wisconsin
District 4 belong to the
Central Region headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- The Fourth Level: Little League International - The top level of Little League
baseball is headquartered in the Borough of South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Some
of the services provided by Little League International include: running the Little
League World Series tournament; provide insurance coverage to local leagues; provide
leadership on player safety; establish rules and regulations for all age levels.
